Chimpanzee Sanctuary Ngamba

Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established in October 1998 to care for orphaned Chimpanzees in Uganda. Most of the Chimps were sold as pets,  eventually were confiscated by wildlife Authority and put on Ngamba Island sanctuary. The sanctuary cares for over 42 Chimpanzees and provides them with every thing they need. These are looked after in the wild where they belong .Ngamba Island is 40 hectares of rain forest of which 39 is allocated to chimpanzees and one for the facilities, staff & visitors areas.
There is accommodation for the tourists at this place. Nearby, there is Bulago private Resort Island that offers good accommodation and meals. The Island is accessed by boat either from Entebbe or Munyonyo areas.

About the Sanctuary and Ngamba Island.
Ngamba Island is part of the KOOME Group of islands located on Lake Victoria 23 km south of Entebbe Uganda. There are about 98 hectares of which are forested   for the chimpanzees and separated from visitor’s area by an electric fence. The camp comprises of four tents for Tourists and all ensuite on a wooden platforms with private decks over looking Lake Victoria.
